We’re inviting Sun Sentinel subscribers to come behind the scenes and get to know who we are, how we do what we do, and what drives our news coverage decisions.

We don’t just want to talk to you. We want to hear from you.

At this virtual event, you’ll meet our newsroom’s top decision makers and the reporters who cover two of South Florida’s hottest topics: coronavirus and the vaccine, and our ever-changing food scene.  They’ll aim to give you a peek inside our newsroom, answer your questions, and hear your candid suggestions about what you would like to see from us.

Please join us at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 4. This hour-long special event is free, but open only to subscribers of the Sun Sentinel. You can sign up below.

About your event hosts:

Julie Anderson is the Editor in Chief of the Sun Sentinel and Orlando Sentinel, leading two of the largest newsrooms in Florida. She has been a leader in digital news operations since the mid-’90s when newspapers first discovered the power of the Internet. Julie is a Florida native and two-time graduate of the University of Central Florida.

Mario Alejandro Ariza does watchdog project reporting while covering federal courts for the Sun Sentinel, and has been a lead reporter on our investigations into Florida’s coronavirus response. Mario is a Dominican immigrant to the United States, and the author of Disposable City: Miami’s future on the Shores of Climate Catastrophe. He holds an MFA from the University of Miami, a Master’s in Hispanic Cultural Studies from Columbia University, and a bachelor’s in political science from Middlebury College.

Dana Banker is the Sun Sentinel’s managing editor, leading a terrific team of journalists committed to finding the stories that matter to South Florida readers. She led projects that twice won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, in 2013 and 2019.  A Florida native, Dana grew up in Tampa, came to South Florida for her first reporting job and never left. She graduated from the University of Florida and was a Scripps Fellow in environmental journalism at the University of Michigan.

Arlene Borenstein-Zuluaga is a food/culture writer for the Sun Sentinel. The FSU grad was born and raised in Broward and has covered hurricanes, politics and features as a TV reporter in South Florida, Washington D.C. and New York City. Her focus now is dining and going out in South Florida, from the food to the changes the pandemic has brought. Raised on arepas and potato pancakes, she will try almost anything and cooks that way with her husband and son.

Cindy Krischer Goodman covers the health beat for the South Florida Sun Sentinel, providing readers information on the pandemic, healthcare delivery, consumer health news and public policy. Cindy is an award-winning journalist, a former nationally distributed business columnist, and a 32-year veteran of the South Florida news industry. She is a Florida native and holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in journalism from University of Florida.

Phillip Valys writes about South Florida’s food and drink scene, hustling to break major news, tapping his sources to look ahead to what we can expect in these unusual times, and always keeping his readers in mind. Born and raised in Hollywood, Phillip began his career covering general entertainment, features and community news. An FAU graduate, he is easily distracted by ramen and barbecue.
